In 1966, the designer Dorothee Schumacher was born in Düsseldorf. After training at the fashion house Peek & Cloppenburg, Schumacher moved to Italy, where she wanted to learn all the basics of producing high-quality fashion in a knitting factory. She used the knowledge that Schumacher gained during this time and founded the Dorothee Schumacher label together with her then husband Jörg Singhoff. Since then, the brand's headquarters have been in Mannheim.

The label's quick success

After founding her brand, Dorothee Schumacher began developing her first own fashion. Her first collection only included three T-shirts. Schumacher designed these as a kind of rebellion against the established business look, which is often viewed as boring and monotonous. According to her own statement, she addresses the woman who is “smart and attractive at the same time”.

Dorothee Schumacher is also one of the labels that helped with the design of the well-known Hollywood film “The Devil Wears Prada”.
