Jil Sander – Different from the start

In the early days of her company, Jil Sander's simple design was not well received by the women of the time. It wasn't until 1976 that the brand achieved its international breakthrough with the so-called onion look, which consisted of several individual pieces that could be combined with each other. In 1980 the company expanded its product range to include perfumes, which are still sold very successfully today.

In the following eighties, Jil Sander was very successful with her rather subtle fashion because it corresponded to the zeitgeist of the time. She presented her fashion on the catwalks of international fashion shows in Milan and thus reached an international audience. Her elegant and delicate way of making fashion was met with much praise, especially in Asia, and the Jil Sander brand was able to gain a foothold in the Asian market. It was only at the end of the 1990s that the company expanded its fashion to include men's fashion, for whose collection the Italian fashion designer Roberto Menichetti was hired.

Subtle aesthetics

Jil Sander's fashion follows a clear line: high-quality fabrics, subtle colors and no unnecessary details. This meant that, especially in the early days, it was a reversal of what competitors like Dior brought onto the market. With her trouser suits and unlined blazers in colors such as dark blue, beige and white, Jil Sander designed fashion for emancipated career women. In doing so, she was not only a pioneer in the fashion world, but also set an example towards increasing equality between men and women.

The company's men's fashion also follows the line of modern simplicity and timeless elegance with slim-fitting suits and blazers. In addition to women's and men's fashion, Jil Sander is also best known for her women's and men's fragrances. As early as 1979, Jil Sander worked with the Lancaster perfume brand and launched the Jil Sander Woman Pure perfume label under the Jil Sander umbrella brand. The most famous fragrances are Jil Sander Sun and Jil Sander No.4, which are still popular perfumes on the market today.
