The brand was founded by fashion icon Gianni Versace. Versace, who was born in Italy in 1946, was very interested in fashion as a boy and began helping out in his mother's tailor shop at an early age. After initially working as a freelance designer for various brands for a while, he decided to found his own label in 1978 - the Versace brand was born.

Shortly after the brand was founded, Versace became very well known and successful. The sales continued to rise - until the murder of Gianni Versace in 1997. This murder of the popular fashion designer is still considered one of the most spectacular murders of all time.
This event plunged the Versace company into a deep crisis; parts of the company, which were now run by the Giannis sisters, had to be sold. It wasn't until the turn of the millennium that things started to look up again, so that the company, now run by Gianni's sister Donate

Shrill fashion as a trademark

In Versace's first collection, the focus was primarily on calming and striking pastel colors. However, it didn't take long for Versace's course to turn 180 degrees. The label began focusing on extremely daring designs early on. The label primarily uses bright and shiny colors for fashion then and now. The cuts of the fashion pieces are usually very provocative; the various collections have always included, among other things, very tight-fitting dresses that emphasize the figure or short skirts and very wide necklines. Versace was also one of the first brands to release and popularize very tight-fitting trousers, i.e. trousers with the nickname “skinny”. The brand always ensures that a certain elegance is still maintained despite all the freedom of fashion.
