Brunello Cucinelli was born in 1953 in Castel Rigone, a small Italian village with around 400 inhabitants. Cucinelli spent his childhood and youth on his parents' farm in poor conditions. In order to support the family, the father had to take a job in a nearby factory. His father's very poor working conditions and experiences with discrimination ultimately also influenced the young Cucinelli: To this day, the designer always ensures that no people, animals or the environment are harmed during the production of his fashion.

Cucinelli became interested in fashion during his youth. He was particularly impressed by designer Luciano Benetton's colorful wool sweaters. So Cucinelli decided to emulate his idol Benetton and make sweaters out of cashmere. He borrowed some money and commissioned embroiderers in his home village to make various women's sweaters according to his ideas. These sweaters were a complete success: Cucinelli sold almost 400 pieces within just three months. Today, the production of these colorful cashmere sweaters is considered the cornerstone of the Brunello Cucinelli brand.

Word quickly spread about Cucinelli's fashion talent. In 1978, at the age of 25, the designer decided to start his own company, Brunello Cucinelli S. p. A., to found. Due to its impressive designs and high quality, the brand was able to gain enormous reputation within a short period of time and became known beyond the borders of Italy. This enabled the company to continually expand its product range. When it comes to its clothing, Cucinelli today, as it did when the brand was founded, relies on designs that are both fashionably impressive and impress with their high level of comfort and the best quality. Brunello Cucinelli's clothing is also known in the fashion world for being extremely durable.

In the first 15 years after the company was founded, Cucinelli focused entirely on producing fashion for women. It wasn't until the 1990s that men's fashion was added to the brand's range.
