Dolce & Gabbana – Two star designers take off

Domenico Dolce from Sicily and Stefano Gabbana from Lombardy were more or less born with the art of tailoring. Dolce was a talented tailor as a child and was designing his own clothes at the age of six. The two future designer icons first met on the phone when Dolce was applying for a job at fashion house Gabbana. Gabbana immediately recognized Dolce's immense talent and, upon his employment, introduced him to the processes of fashion design and clothing manufacturing. In 1982, the two founded a design consultancy together and three years later, the now world-famous designer duo presented their first collection on the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week. From then on, things only went uphill for Dolce & Gabbana. The first D&G store opened in 1986 and a year later the range was expanded to include knitwear. There has also been lingerie and swimwear since 1989 and a men's collection under the D&G label since 1990. The success story of women's and men's fragrances from Dolce & Gabbana finally began in 1992/93.

Dolce & Gabbana, Madonna and the music scene

Dolce & Gabbana received major international attention in 1990 when pop star Madonna wore a bejeweled corset and matching D&G jacket to the premiere of the documentary "In Bed with Madonna." Madonna became one of the Italian luxury label's most loyal fans. In 1993, Dolce & Gabbana worked with the American pop singer to design more than 1,500 costumes for her international tour “Girlie Show”. The Italian duo also designed the stage outfits for Madonna's international “Drowned World Tour” in 2001. In 2010, Madonna was even part of the advertising campaigns for D&G. However, Madonna wasn't the only artist Dolce & Gabbana has worked with so far. The Italian tailor duo also designed many costumes for other global stars such as Beyoncé, Kylie Minogue, Mary J. Blidge, Missy Elliott and Whitney Houston. The talent of the two didn't even stop at football. From 2004 to 2017, D&G equipped the Italian national football team and the AC Milan football club.
