Missoni – Master of Patterns
The Missoni label is a family business and was founded in Italy in 1953 by the couple Rosita and Ottavio Missoni. The two initially produced knitwear in a small workshop near Milan. Even back then, the two of them had a passion for colorful designs, and the first sweaters and scarves were already in different colors. The label continues to follow this bright and colorful path to this day.
New knitting techniques bring initial success
The Missoni company becomes the life's work of the two married couples, Rosita and Ottavio. The two were always looking for new ways to make their fashion and constantly developed new knitting techniques. For example, they invented the first patchwork for knitwear, meaning they were the first to make an embroidered garment using different colors. This new introduction gave the brand the nickname “Missoni – Master of Patterns”.
The first real success of the Missoni brand was a vertically knit sweater in 1955. The two founders of the company built on this success and continued to expand their product range of colorful fashion until they launched their first in 1966 in the venerable Teatro Gerolamo in Milan presented their own collection. This collection was a complete success throughout Italy.
Youthful and sporty elegance
From this point on, Missoni's concept was to produce fashion that primarily expressed youthful and sporty elegance. Thanks to the colorful zigzag patterns, the label's fashion has also become a real eye-catcher. Fashion magazines outside of Italy printed Missoni's designs more and more often, so that the brand became increasingly successful internationally. After Rosita and Ottavio Missoni retired from their company's business, their two sons Vittorio and Luca are responsible for both the company's marketing and men's fashion.
